The Dutch alternative rockband Throat of Autumn characterizes itself by the use of hardrock elements varied with experimental progressive music. This creates a unique experimental grunge.
Throat of Autumn differ dark tones with melodies that will not let you get out of it’s grasp easily. In combination with part-singing and different singing styles, Throat of Autumn constructs an intens atmosphere.

The heavy guitar riffs and pumping creative drums are being alternated with intimate and vulnerable moments. In these moments there is room for profound lyrics about life and it’s paradoxes.
Throat of Autumn delivers a clear sound with a message that seldom leave someone untouched.
The musicians of Throat of Autumn are inspired by bands such as Opeth, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Seether, Staind, Tool, Alter Bridge, Radiohead, Pain of Salvation, Porcupine Tree, Machine Head, Karnivool and Katatonia.
The sound of Throat of Autumn was founded in the autumn of 2013. All bandmembers have extensive experience in music and have performed in numerous bands across the country.
With their debut album they want to take along people in the beauty and darkness of the autumn.

4: When/why did you join the band?
I joined the band in the very beginning, it used to be Algorythm but the name changed to Throat Of Autumn when i joined to indicate the new direction the band was taking. I played in one other band before this band but during this period i really got into the more progressive styles of music and witnessed one acoustic concert of Algorythm and was thinking; “damn this band sounds so good live” when i heard they were looking for a drummer, i wanted to be in the band. they asked me to learn 3 songs for the audition but i learned almost every song of theirs instead just to show my dedication to joining the band ;D

5: When did you start playing your instrument and what motivated you?
Started playing drums at the age of 13, my main motivation was Metallica; S&M. i watched Enter Sandman and saw how mean the drummer was looking at the camara and how much fun he was having, then i knew.. i wanted to be that angry drummer. Just look it up on youtube, the looks he gives just send shivers through your spine.

1: Favourite band/music style?
I live for Progressive music. It’s really hard to choose one favorite band. At the same time, it’s not hard at all. Porcupine Tree is a band that combines all musical elements I love. Amazing build-ups, chugging metal parts, Acoustic passages, huge atmospheric soundscapes, and even poppy choruses. The songwriting is melancholic, socially critical, dark, and about everything in life. All this together with spicy chord progressions, odd meters, and polyrhythms/meters. All the above makes it Irresistible.

2: Who is your hero?
Steven Wilson. He’s an amazing songwriter, someone I look up to as a writer myself. Besides that, he’s an amazing producer and engineer, something I dream to become one day. He’s an artist who creates music that he wants to create. When he went solo, he did not make any concessions to stick to one genre. He made a jazz-fusion album and his latest work is a synthesizer-driven pop album.

3: Favourite pokemon?
Gengar.

4: When/why did you join the band?
I’ve been friends with Jordy for quite a while now. We did some musical projects in the past. Morris was involved in one of these projects. He even asked me to fill in for their guitarist at one gig. So I knew the band quite well. When their former guitarist left, they invited me to the band.
Because they shared my love for progressive music, I did not have to think very long. Besides that, they’re all amazing people.

5: When did you start playing your instrument and what motivated you?
I started playing when I was 10/11 years old. I saw a live performance of AC/DC at Donnington. I was so impressed by what an electric guitar can do and sound like. I wanted to try it as soon as possible. The moment I did, I fell in love.

6: What makes you laugh the most?
The horrible jokes and stories during rehearsals and weekend trips with the band.

7: What is your biggest fear?
Losing my hearing or my hand. There would be no point in life anymore.

8: What is your favorite thing about music and/or playing in a band?
It helps me to manage my feelings, emotions, and thoughts. By listening, creating, or playing.

I love listening to music that touches you, because it shares your story, feeling, or emotion. In lyrics or just the sound someone created.

Writing music is a great way to express yourself and to clear your mind of everything that’s bothering you. The feeling that your own music, with your story, touches someone else, is just the best thing ever.

Playing in bands is something I’ve been doing for years. Performing live on stage gives you a kind of energy that makes you feel alive. Especially when performing your own material. Seeing the audience react to it.. That’s where I live for.

9: What did you want to become since you were a little kid?
I wanted to become a lot of things. I always got obsessed with things when I was a kid. I wanted to join the Navy. I wanted to become a professional soccer player. But since I’ve been playing guitar, I wanted to become an artist.

My first song on Spotify that I wrote. It’s a Pop-punk song (yeah I’ve been there, done that). It’s called Unstable by Floodlight.

15: What is your favorite animal?
Cats. I always felt really connected to cats.

16: What is the longest you went without sleep and why?

I agreed and one jam session later I joined the band.

5: When did you start playing your instrument and what motivated you?
At a very young age I started playing recorder and soprano saxophone, at 12 years old, I wanted to learn a chord instrument and I was fascinated by keyboard instruments. I quickly taught myself a few pop songs and a few bands later I was looking for a piano teacher. My first piano teacher (when I was 15) taught me a great deal about piano and music theory. He helped me get into the conservatory where I developed my piano/keyboard skills further.

5: When did you start playing your instrument and what motivated you?

I’ve started seriously thinking of dedicating myself to an instrument and really learn music at 11 years old. Before that I would play around with various instruments: piano, guitar, recorder, singing and dancing a lot (Michael Jackson). The first serious dedication to an instrument would be guitar. My mother and uncle, practically my mother’s side of the family, inspired me to make music and is where I’ve discovered my musicality. I’ve started playing Harry Sacksioni at 11 with a song called ‘Meta Sequoia’.

I love the craft of music, I love the mystery around the effect of music on human beings. It speaks a universal language that connects people, music heals, music speaks, music is all around us (yeah, like the force). I love when music is being created and recreated live with excellence for the entire process. The finetuning. That is where the band comes to play. I love it when our musical creativity is being formed to a product with utmost professionalism. The feeling of creating something and carrying it to a near state of perfection is where I musically live for in a band. And offcourse sharing that product with an audience live or to soothe people’s minds when needed on demand.
